typographic metaphors
This project was to develop typographic settings for a chosen text
that instilled metaphoric implications or connotations through compositional arrangement, juxtaposition, and typographic manipulation. Finally, to engage in meaning making and experiment with the use of visual metaphor in an intentional way.
For my piece, I chose to communicate the idea of overthinking and the its power to overwhelm and prevent clarity. The deliverables for this project were divided into four separate compositions.
1 - Verbal: The first section used only text to communicate the idea of
the piece.
2 - Verbal/Visual: Next used key phrases and a visual layout to illustrate the analysis of the subject. Viewers should have a sense of
the concept at first glance, but then should read further to understand
the meaning.
3 - Visual/Verbal: This composition focused on a couple of letters or vague phrases, but the main idea was portrayed through the visual presentation. The visual metaphor was the strongest component while the verbal aspects further drove the idea.
4 - Visual: This segment of the project used only visual metaphor to communicate the general idea of the piece. Viewers should not have been able to read any content to understand the idea but should have understood the concept through visual cues and metaphors.
